HENRY CURTNER (1830-1917) came from Indiana to California in 1852 and started working as a humble farm laborer. From that meager beginning he became a major landowner (about 8,000 acres) in Alameda and Santa Clara Counties, as well as 32,000 acres in Humboldt County, Nevada. Today Curtner Elementary School in Milpitas in named for him, as are two streets (Curtner Dive in Milpitas and Curtner Avenue in San Jose). (Use the links to retrieve the full article).
